Sustainable Agriculture & Livelihoods Programme

Build practical farming, food-processing and market skills that help participants strengthen their livelihoods.

Programme in development — participant applications are not open yet.

These are proposed programme guidelines. SOF will publish confirmed communities, dates, capacity, costs (if any) and final eligibility before an intake opens. An expression of interest is not an application or a guarantee of selection or support.

What the programme aims to achieve

Improve agricultural knowledge, responsible production practices and access to viable market opportunities.

Planned activities

  • Practical sessions on soil care, water management and locally suitable production methods.
  • Demonstrations on post-harvest handling, storage and food processing.
  • Farm budgeting, record keeping and cooperative learning.
  • Introductions to input suppliers, extension specialists and potential buyers.

Who it is for

Smallholder farmers, aspiring growers and agriculture-related enterprises

Proposed eligibility

  • Applicants for adult training should be 18 or older and interested in farming, processing or agricultural enterprise.
  • No degree or formal farming certificate is required.
  • Crop-production activities require access or permission to use a suitable growing space; land ownership is not required.
  • People without growing space may express interest in processing, marketing or other suitable tracks.

How to take part — three simple steps

  1. Choose this programme. Read the proposed eligibility and decide which support or track fits your needs.
  2. Express interest by email. Share your name, preferred contact and a short description of your interest. A guardian or school can enquire for a child. No account is needed.
  3. Follow the announced intake. SOF will explain the next steps when places are available. Submit the short application and any required information through the official process; wait for confirmation before attending.

Choose a track: crop production, processing or agricultural enterprise. Briefly describe your experience and the resources you can access. SOF will share the next intake requirements and any practical site checks when a programme opens.

Express interest by emailDownload programme brief

The email button opens a draft for you to review and send. This website does not save your interest or submit an application.

Do not include identity documents, bank details, passwords or health records in the initial enquiry. Any later document requirements will be explained through the official intake process.

Selection and preparation

For a future intake, the proposed assessment will consider eligibility, the support needed, fit with the available track and available places. Basic eligibility does not guarantee selection. Request any accessibility support you need. Additional qualifications, documents, attendance commitments and any participant costs will be stated before applications open.

How it would be delivered

Proposed delivery: practical group training, demonstrations and mentoring through farming seasons. Inputs or equipment will depend on partner funding and published selection rules.

How progress would be measured

  • Participants completing practical training.
  • Participants adopting practices demonstrated during the programme.
  • Participants keeping basic farm or enterprise records.

How sponsors can support this programme

  • Agricultural trainers and extension expertise.
  • Demonstration sites, suitable tools and inputs.
  • Storage, processing and market-access partnerships.
